It is our mission…
To provide field-based experiential education programs to students, teachers and community members designed to cultivate a deeper understanding of the cultural and natural history of the San Juan Mountains, and in so doing, foster a sense of place and commitment to environmental stewardship.

The San Juan Field School promotes environmental stewardship and community connectivity through field-based, experiential education courses within the mountains and rivers of the San Juan Region. We share in outdoor activities with teachers, students, and members of our communities while providing a wide range of educational opportunities.

The San Juan Field School is a non-advocacy organization which believes in education that empowers individuals to develop a desire to learn and a sense of place so that they may better care for their own landscapes, wherever they may be in the world.

The San Juan Field School is a non-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)3 organization that subsists entirely on the generous support of it's sponsors. If you believe in field-based experiential education and would like to make a tax-deductible donation to our programming, please contact us. For donations of $1,000 or more, we will provide you and up to 3 guests with a custom 1-day educational excursion into the Telluride Region.
